Intercultural issues
Culture, family, identity and social expectations influence how we see ourselves and others. Therapy can make room for themes such as loyalty, guilt, migration, religion, autonomy and feeling caught between different worlds.
Psychological treatment for adults and couples
I offer psychological treatment that looks at the whole person: thoughts and emotions, relationships, culture, physical health, lifestyle and the environment you live in.

How I can help
You can contact me when you feel stuck in relationships, family dynamics or personal patterns, especially when cultural differences or expectations play a role.
Examples of issues that can be addressed in my practice:
Expertise
Culture, family, identity and social expectations influence how we see ourselves and others. Therapy can make room for themes such as loyalty, guilt, migration, religion, autonomy and feeling caught between different worlds.
Differences around family and in-laws, roles, parenting, religion, money, boundaries and sexuality can place relationships under pressure. The aim is not to decide which culture is “right”, but to uncover expectations and develop workable agreements.
Recurring arguments are often about more than the immediate topic. We can explore underlying themes such as rejection, trust, control, jealousy, vulnerability, withdrawal and the need for connection.
There is room to speak openly about desire, intimacy, uncertainty, shame, boundaries and sexual expectations, while also considering relationships, past experiences, upbringing, culture and religion.
When symptoms are connected to distressing events or traumatic memories, EMDR may be part of treatment. We carefully discuss which symptoms are most prominent and whether EMDR is appropriate for your needs and situation.
Approach
Psychological difficulties rarely exist in isolation. I therefore look beyond symptoms to the different factors that may influence psychological wellbeing.
Together we explore which factors matter in your situation and where change is possible. I draw, among other things, on cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic perspectives. At times the focus is on changing thoughts and behaviour; at other times it is on understanding recurring patterns and where they come from.
Practical aspects of daily life may also be relevant: sleep, exercise, nutrition, physical health, social contact and the way you use your phone, social media and other digital stimuli.
About me
I am Sinan Kurt, a psychologist. I was born and raised in Turkey and completed my further education as a psychologist in the Netherlands. Over the past years I have worked in both general and forensic mental health care.
My work and personal background have increasingly drawn my interest to the influence of culture, family and relationships on psychological functioning. I am particularly interested in the intersection of cultural background, family, relationships, intimacy and sexuality.
As a therapist I am engaged, curious and direct. I believe that subjects surrounded by shame, doubt or taboo should also be discussable.
